Scout Intensive:
Wolverine Walkabout
August 2-8, 2009
Cost: $700
Location: Hawk Circle Cherry Valley
This workshop is an immersion into the world of the scout, those individuals who are the eyes and ears of the tribe. The scouts were protectors, using their skills of silent travel, enhanced observation, tracking and awareness to keep their families safe. The training for these people brought them deep into the wilderness, to make it their true home.
This class is unlike any other scout class you may have taken before. It is run Hawk Circle style, with low testosterone, and a focus on individual training and experiences. We have a youth camp happening concurrently with our program, which we will observe and learn to protect. Participants will make their own trail food, learn to travel silently, move in small teams for several days. Communication, inner awareness, herbal first aid, scout gear packs, natural camoflage, stalking, wild edible foods gathering, bird language and scout fire-making will be taught in this program.
This is more than a skills program. You will learn to internalize a new way of experiencing nature, where animals, birds, plants and yourself, in ways that native people have known for centuries.
Please Note: This course involves movement across varied terrain, off-trail travel, and time spent fully in nature. Students must be comfortable in all weather conditions, away from the comfort of modern conveniences for much of the class.
Also, please note that this course does not focus on martial arts, 'raiding' or competitive activities often shared in other scout training programs. It is an individual approach to movement, awareness, tracking and observation.
Please feel free to write for more information or if you have specific questions.
