The
Hawk Circle
Vision Quest
Sending Out a Voice
in the Wilderness
In 1984 I first met Tom Brown, Jr., and heard him speak. Even as he talked about the wilderness survival program, the logistical details and other mundane things of a practical nature, I could feel that there was something different about who he was, and how he lived his life. I could sense that he was connected to the world of spirit, and that he followed an inner voice that I couldn't hear myself. This 'essense' for lack of a better word, seemed to infuse everthing he did and said. It was in the way he walked, and how he looked at the wind in the grass.
When I had studied with him for several years, I signed up for a vision quest in the Pine Barrens. Although that quest was ultimately cancelled, I learned about the preparation and dedication that was needed for such a powerful undertaking. I quested with the help of my friend Craig Boynton, following in ancient footsteps according to Tom's guidance and direction. Craig had quested with Tom in an earlier time, and he helped me with the sweatlodge ceremonies, the purification, the many little steps that were shared through stories and nights around the campfire.
When I awoke early on my first day, well before dawn, to quest for my vision, I was scared but I was comforted too. I knew my friend was close by, looking out for me, keeping watch, and I was safe. His support meant that I could concentrate on my inner search, my cleansing and my deep meditation, knowing I would be undisturbed.
I have taken many quests since that time, in the Grand Canyon, in Death Valley, in the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains, in the high deserts of Utah and the eastern forests of New York and Massachusetts. I have guided others in their own search, just like Craig did for me.
This June, we will hold the space for 12 people to come to Hawk Circle and seek the answers to their questions, or to be gifted a vision. We will share food as we begin to fast from society, from media, from contact wtih others, and find our individual quest areas. We will make medicine bags from buckskin, and learn about techniques that can help a person in quest to enter the wilderness purely.
There is considerable preparation in the form of meditative walks, prayer ties, journaling and other assignments to help your quest be successful, so we will not accept any students after March 1st, 2007.
The dates for this upcoming quest is June 15th to 23rd, 2007.
Upon acceptance, you will recieve preparation guidelines, an equipment list, and three phone consultations before the program.
The cost for this program is $650-800, sliding scale, and all food, staff support and materials are included. We do not charge for any ceremony in any of our programs, and we will try to give scholarships, work/trade or other arrangements if finances are a hardship.
Please register early to be assured of plenty of time to prepare for this power event that will change your life.
